BIOGRAPHY

Born in Madrid (Spain), Hugo’sland began his DJ career in 1987, as he moved from the dancefloor to the DJ booth
at the infamous Andy Warhol’s Club (Madrid, Spain), in what would become an alliance of six years.
During that time he also spinned records at the most prestigious clubs in Madrid and
the East Coast of Spain.

He moved to London in 1994, where it took him only two weeks to make a robust
UK debut at the legendary FF Club @ Turnmills, becoming resident DJ,
torturing the clubbers eardrums alongside Mrs Wood, Blu Peter, EJ Doubell and
later on Dave Randall
Since then, he has not looked back, playing and headlining flyers in UK and
abroad; Spain, Russia, Japan, Sweden, Belgium, France and Italy, and
headlining the following festivals; London Mardi Gras 2002, 2001, 2000,
1999, Padova Rainbow Party 2002, Stockholm Prism 2001, and
London Summer Rites 1996.

In 1999, Hugo’sland combined forces with Cyberdog shops to
manage the music department until 2001.
During that time, he set up his own record label Prohibited
Rhythms in collaboration with Pepi’s, a cutting edge creative
styling company with outlets in London, Tokyo
and Barcelona, to offer a
different point of view within
the dance music.
A non-specific dance label
created to release Hugo’sland
dreams and nightmares, using his
knowledge of classical and popular
music, mixed with samples from his
favourites singers & bands, and blended
with tribal, uplifting, progressive or funky
            rhythms.

Progressive Beats was the first CD released on his label, a compilation album mixed by him, a true reflection of what Hugo’sland DJ sessions are about:
“Progressive Beats literally rocks out those synth squelches and hard house beats” Brent Nicholls, QX Magazine, UK.
“It compares well to the big names compilations” Tony Marcus, 7 Magazine, UK

Pepi’s Tokyo 2001 was the second CD released on Prohibited Rhythms; Hugo’sland was commissioned to write the soundtrack for Ms Begona Alegria’s spectacular multimedia show presented in Tokyo, to introduce Pepi’s world to the Japanese press.

Spread the Word followed on 12” and was remixed by Trade, FF and Fist resident DJ EJ Doubell.

Hugo’sland has collaborated with Spanish record labels Kidesol/Kiko Vinilo, DJ Iker Nunez a.k.a. Dario Nunez’s IKS label, UK record label Enterpress, singer Chloe Le Fay and Spanish singer/songwriter Rafael de Alba.

His promotional mixed compilation CD’s have taken his sound as far as North America, South America, Australia, Canada, China and Japan, being played on air several times on the syndicated radio show Interference, broadcasting on terrestrial radio across America, on GrooveRadio.Com (US), Shibuya FM (Japan) and Bliss 102.5FM (UK).

In 2007, after thousands of mixed CD’s had been given away during his gigs around the world and due to public demand for more, his mixed compilation CD’s became available to download for free at www.hugosland.podomatic.com

In 2008, Hugo’sland went back to school to study a Diploma Course in Sound and Music Technology at the prestigious Islington Music Workshop Academy and started to learn to play the piano.

Nowadays, you can see him in action at Hard On @ Hidden Club in London (UK), where he has been resident DJ for the past 5 years.  Also, he is at the recording studio working on new projects with different artists and setting up his digital record label.
